8 Nights 9 Days Black-Necked Crane Festival Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Paro, Bhutan
Our Guide and driver will greet you at Airport and drive towards Thimphu. On your way visit Tamchog Lhakhang.
After arrival in Thimphu, check into hotel, refresh yourself and get ready to take a short tour of Thimphu.
After lunch:
- The National Memorial Chorten
- Thimphu Tashichho Dzong
- Buddha Point
Day 2: Thimphu Sightseeing
After breakfast:
- Bhutan Postal Museum
- Changangkha Lhakhang
- Folk heritage Museum
- School of traditional arts and crafts.
After lunch:
Day 3: Thimphu – Punakha
Morning visit Simply Bhutan, Textile Museum and handicraft Emporium.
Later part of afternoon drive over the Dochula Pass. On the arrival, visit Punakha Dzong – the “Palace of Great Happiness”. After lunch, enjoy a walk to Chimi Lhakhang, temple of the Drukpa Kuenley , who is also known as the Divine Madman. Overnight at your hotel at Punakha or Wangduephodrang.
Day 4: Punakha – Phobjikha
Drive to Yabesa Village and hike through rice fields and up to Khamsum Yueley Namgyal Chorten. Take a picnic lunch on a picturesque riverside before exploring the WangduephodrangDzong.
Afterwards proceed to Phobjikha Valley to witness Black-necked crane festival.
Day 5: Attend Black-Necked Crane Festival
Morning witness Black-necked crane festival. Later part of afternoon visit Gangtey Goempa and Gangtey Natural Trial for short hike exploring nature.
Day 6: Phobjikha to Paro.
Attend festival for few hours and then drive towards Paro. It takes around 6 hours.
Day 6: Hike to Tiger Nest Monastery.
Are you ready? We will be making the hike up to one of the key highlights in Bhutan today! Tiger’s Nest, Taktsang Monastery.
Taktsang Monastery – A one hour hike to the cafeteria is also a vantage view whereby you can enjoy the stunning view of the monastery. Prayer flags adorn the cliffs and this is also where Guru Padmasambhava landed on the back of a tigress in the 8th century.
Kyichu Lhakhang – After a sumptuous local lunch, we will retrace our steps to visit Kyichu Lhakhang, one of the oldest temples in Bhutan.
Day 8: Excursion to Chelela Pass and local Sightseeing
Morning drive to Chelela Pass, 2 hours drive from Paro. Enjoy the magnificent views of high Himalayan peaks of Mount Jichu Drake and Jomolhari.
Later part of afternoon, visit Ta Dong, Rimpung Dzong and Drukgyal Dzong.
Day 9: Depart from Paro
Depending upon your flight timing, guide and driver will drop you at Airport for your onward journey.
